Both Ends Burning- Stuck Campaign

How many more families would adopt if it didn't take so long or cost so much?

Did you know that the average international adoption takes 3 years and $28,000?

There is a grass roots movement to raise awareness that international adoption is decreasing at an alarming rate, while the number of orphans is increasing. We encourage the President to take steps to make adoption a reality for many more people who would gladly open their homes and hearts to these children. This movement hopes to decrease costs, decrease barriers, increase efficiency and in turn, link more children with their forever families. Please join me in telling the President how important it is that all children have the opportunity to grow up valued and loved.

Conservative estimates say more than 10 million children around the world live outside a family setting, in institutions or on the street. In reality, that number may be much higher.

Adoptions into the U.S. have fallen by more than 60 percent since 2004, due in large part to a broken system filled with delays, bureaucracy, discrimination and staggering costs. In the meantime, children are suffering.

Please watch the Stuck Documentary touring cities now http://vimeo.com/59302895 and finish the tour with a march on Washington May 17th. Click the link below to sign this important petition!

To:
The President of the United States
The U.S. Senate
The U.S. House of Representatives
Leaders of all world governments
Directors of international child welfare organizations
We believe every child has the right to a permanent loving family.
We find it intolerable that millions of children all over the world live without family care.
We embrace international adoption as a worthy and effective way to honor every child's right to a family.

We demand change NOW and call upon:

The President of the United States, Members of Congress and the Secretary of State:
- To establish the United States as an effective, proactive champion for every child's right to a permanent loving family, and
-To remove barriers to international adoption.

Leaders of all world governments and directors of international child welfare organizations:
-To prioritize the need to find permanent loving families for orphaned, abandoned and relinquished children as a basic human right, and
-To support international adoption as an appropriate and viable solution for children living outside of family care.

Sincerely,

Looking back as Ava and time flies by...

A picture I found on my video camera taken when Ava was home about a month. Just a quick glimpse in time as she speeds by. I don't remember her looking so LITTLE!

"Ava Funny!"

Last night Ava had me up at 2 am, 3 am, 4 am and 5 am. I was pretty irritated at her this morning so Daddy did the dressing and getting her ready. As we were leaving I helped her with her ski pants and boots and she flashed a big smile at me, and said "Ava Funny" and laughed out loud at herself. Hmmm... any other day this would be so darn CUTE. Today- not. so. much.

Do It Anyway

I recently stumbled across a quote by Mother Teresa the other day that I love. It's called "Do it anyway".

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”

Christmas Highlights!

This was Ava's second Christmas with us and boy did she catch on quick that this was a pretty special and exciting time. She learned all about the Christmas tree and of course, Santa. These words were added to her vocabulary and she used them a lot. She performed in the holiday concert and did amazing. She was animated, shaking the bells, yelling out the words she knew and dancing around. My heart was so proud. That's my girl! I'm in awe of this little girl who has overcome so much in her short life, opened her heart to a new, loud and big family, had two surgeries and started preschool all in one year! She teaches us all something new about life and love everyday. We are so lucky!
The magic of a snowglobe!

Helping Mom decorate the tree!

Aidan still loves to help too! The older boys grumbled about helping so I just let them watch and direct. Funny thing happened though- that night the tree fell over due to a new tree stand and not quite getting the tree in just right. Yep, fell right over and they were the ones to put it back up and put the decorations back on. Adam mentioned that this happened to make sure everyone had a part of decorating the tree....:-)

Christmas Concert Night for the littles!
Yes, we did love getting dressed up! Digging out a dress instead of pants, shirts and ties was pretty darn fun!

There she is! Look at how big those kids are around her!
Yeah, I know I'm cute...

Mommy's favorite gift! A bitty baby!!

Lots of snow and time for some snowshoeing!

Ava taking the easy way

Look at her go! Last year she wouldn't walk in the snow and this year she's rockin' snowshoes :-)

Aidan- aka "King of the Mountain"

Adam and Asa taking a rest, waiting for us slowpokes to catch up.

A picture to bring in the New Year, may it be a happy and healthy one for everyone!
